Welcome to our wedding website! We are so happy you’re here.
Timeline of Us.
The Match (July 2022): It all started with a simple right swipe and a lucky break against the algorithm. We officially connected online, and Ian took the lead by sending the very first message.
Before that fateful swipe, we were both navigating very different chapters. Jake had been single for quite some time, content in his routine and not actively looking for his perfect match. Ian’s single chapter was much more recent. He was still finding his footing after the painful closing of a major chapter in his life, holding onto a quiet hope that someone out there could help mend his bruised heart.
When the notification popped up, it felt like the universe finally brought the right pieces together at just the right time.
The First Chat: That initial hello quickly opened the floodgates to an unforgettable conversation. Jake sent an odd yet captivating voice memo about "things you think of while showering"—specifically questioning, "Are you a sock, shoe, sock, shoe person or a sock, sock, shoe, shoe person?" It immediately piqued Ian's interest, and what started as playful online banter quickly turned into hours of nonstop chatting.
The First Date: Realizing we had way too much to talk about over text, we decided it was time to meet face-to-face. We chose a Tuesday night at Betelgeuse Betelgeuse—a spot we both had been dying to try. We went in thinking it would just be a casual meetup for a quick drink vibe, but the chemistry was so instant that six hours later, we completely closed the place down.
The Next Chapters: Once we realized that a Tuesday night marathon date was just the beginning, our lives quickly blended into a beautiful partnership. From that first night out to building a life together, we learned that we made the perfect team through all of life's daily adventures. Along the way, we tackled our first road trips, navigated long-distance travel, and took the big step of meeting each other’s families (which can always be a little intimidating!). We successfully won over each other's friends—who tend to be a bit overprotective—before moving into a new place together with our four pets, and eventually buying our very first home.
The Proposal: With our home base established, escaping the Texas heat for Michigan has become our favorite summer tradition, but our last trip featured a twist Jake didn't see coming. Under the guise of simple Clowes family photos on Lake Michigan, Ian orchestrated a detour to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse.
The catch? It required a 3-mile hike on foot, in outfits heavily optimized for looking nice rather than outdoor survival (see engagement photos)lol! Midway through the trek, Jake started questioning the itinerary, asking, "What's so special about this lighthouse?" Ian had to deploy some serious quick-thinking to dodge the question without giving away the surprise.
Anyone who knows Jake knows he usually has thoughts—and plenty of words—but being blindsided by surprise cardio in portrait attire, just crazy! Miraculously, Jake kept his cool (so to speak) and powered through. The trek was worth every step. At the lighthouse, Ian threw out his old rulebook (after years of insisting Jake had to be the one to propose) and popped the question. Ian knew this moment had to be captured, so he organized for the photographer to be there, capturing the shock on Jake's face and the exact moment he said yes!
The Big Day: Now that the question has finally been popped, we are ready to officially start the rest of our lives—and we need you to bring the energy. As Beyoncé famously said, "I feel like falling in love... I'm in the mood to funk something up"—so everyone better be ready to drink, hit the dance floor, and celebrate! We cannot wait to kick off our forever with all of our favorite people.
